Résumé

Ce livre sur SharePoint Foundation 2010 s’adresse aux Administrateurs Système et aux Responsables Informatiques de petites et moyennes entreprises. Il présente une méthodologie de mise en œuvre d’un outil de travail collaboratif dans ce type d’entreprises et expose les réflexions sur son utilité au quotidien. Le livre permet la compréhension approfondie du produit SharePoint Foundation 2010, de la préparation du projet au déploiement et à l’administration sans oublier l’accompagnement des utilisateurs. Il s’adresse à toute personne sans expérience particulière sur SharePoint, souhaitant bénéficier d’un tour d’horizon complet de la brique de base de la gamme et il ne nécessite aucune compétence de développeur : les fonctions mises en œuvre dans les exemples ne contiennent aucun code et ne nécessitent pas de programmation. Après une présentation de la gamme SharePoint et de la terminologie autour du produit, l’auteur parcourt l’installation puis l’administration. Il utilise ensuite les objets de sites et leurs possibilités (bibliothèques, listes, construction de sites) puis les scénarios d’utilisation avec les composants de la suite Microsoft Office.

CMIS is a specification that Microsoft developed in along with IBM, EMC, Alfresco, OpenText, SAP and Oracle to enable greater interoperability between content management repositories and to enable a whole new range of Composite Content Applications that can be build agnostic of the underlying repository.

CMIS specification, forming a Technical Committee at OASIS to deliver that specification as a truly open standard, and having four "plug-fest" events where we've tested actual (prototype) implementations of the spec together to make sure it would work in the real-world – I'm thrilled to announce that on October 23, 2009 Version 1.0 of the CMIS specification entered OASIS' public review process.http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/tc_home.php?wg_abbrev=cmis

The CMIS specification defines a standard "domain model" for an ECM system - a set of core concepts that all modern ECM systems have, like Object Types (which in SharePoint we call "Content Types"), properties, folders, documents, versions, and relationships - and the set of operations that can be performed on those concepts, like navigating through a folder hierarchy, updating a document, etc.

Public voting on the CMIS specification ends on April 30th and we expect that the specification will be ratified as a standard shortly afterwards. SharePoint : Gadget Windows VISTA et SEVEN pour le SharePoint People Search , Blog Technique de Romelard Fabrice

Dans le cadre de l’utilisation du SharePoint People Search, un des principaux reproches existant est l’obligation de passer par le navigateur et donc le site Intranet de recherche.

Bien que ce point soit central, il est vrai que dans le cadre d’une recherche rapide de collaborateur, entre le carnet d’adresse Outlook et le site de recherche Intranet, il y a matière à amélioration.

C’est donc dans ce contexte que j’ai développé ce nouveau Gadget pour Windows VISTA et SEVEN s’installant directement sur le bureau et utilisant le WebService de Recherche de SharePoint.

Microsoft est particulièrement lent dans la validation du Gadget et donc pour le moment le lien officiel sur Windows Gallery n’est pas encore disponible. Le lien est donc sur mon site personnel pour le moment. Ainsi, vous pouvez trouver le module sur le lien :

The Microsoft VHD format is the common virtualization file format for Hyper-V that provides a uniform product support system, and provides more seamless manageability, security, reliability and cost-efficiency for customers.

This VHD release is available in English only and is for evaluation and testing purposes. The VHD images are current set to expire to on March 1st 2010 (at which time the OS will become inoperable.As this installation requires Hyper-V, you will need to have a base install of Windows Server 2008 (64bit edition) or Windows Server 2008 R2 RC, running Hyper-V. For more information on obtaining and installing the latest version of Hyper-V, please visit the Hyper-V Homepage.Both virtual machines available here are running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition Evaluation. Some very exciting news was announced yesterday. SharePoint’s mission has always been to provide collaboration to the masses. Collaboration in the broadest sense has meant business intelligence capability with Excel integration, Excel Services, KPIs, Report Center, etc.
Well, as of yesterday, collaboration to the masses now also includes BI for the masses with the inclusion of PerformancePoint Services. Yep, that’s right! The next version of SharePoint (aka SharePoint14) will include PerformancePoint Services. You say you can’t wait till SharePoint14, well you might not have to, read on…
This is an update to our Business Intelligence roadmap. This will greatly facilitate delivering BI to everyone in the organization.
Specifically, this includes consolidating the scorecard, dashboard, and analytic functionality from PerformancePoint Server into SharePoint Server Enterprise as PerformancePoint Services.
PerformancePoint Services will be a license entitlement for SharePoint Server 2007 ECAL customers with Software Assurance. This means that customers who want to deploy PerformancePoint can do so today at no additional cost. Yep, you read that right.

So here we have some news about Business Intelligence with SharePoint 2009 or SharePoint 14. PerformancePoint Server 2007 which was released in September 2007 will be consolidated into the next version of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server Enterprise. "Geneva" Simplifies User Access to Applications and Services - Organizations need to enable collaboration within the enterprise, across organizational boundaries and on the Web while satisfying cost and security requirements. Organizations must react to changing needs more quickly and economically by enabling existing systems to interoperate with new systems such as cloud services and SOA.
Yet the complexity of implementing identity-based user access to applications and other resources makes it difficult for developers and their IT customers to satisfy these business needs. There are several problems with today's application access solutions, including too many different identity technologies for developers to choose from, high complexity to implement and manage user access, and difficulty interoperating heterogeneous applications and systems. Cette mise à jour de sécurité corrige une vulnérabilité signalée confidentiellement dans le service Serveur. La vulnérabilité pourrait permettre l'exécution de code à distance si un système affecté recevait une requête RPC spécialement conçue. Sur les systèmes Windows 2000, Windows XP et Windows Server 2003, un attaquant pourrait exploiter cette vulnérabilité pour exécuter du code arbitraire sans nécessiter d'authentification. Il serait possible d'utiliser cette vulnérabilité dans la création d'un ver. Les meilleures pratiques en matière de pare-feu, ainsi que les configurations par défaut des pare-feu, contribuent à protéger les ressources réseau contre les attaques lancées depuis l’extérieur de l’entreprise.

Il s'agit d'une mise à jour de sécurité de niveau « critique » pour toutes les éditions prises en charge de Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 et de niveau « important » pour toutes les éditions prises en charge de Windows Vista et Windows Server 2008. Cette mise à jour de sécurité corrige cette vulnérabilité en modifiant la façon dont le service Serveur traite les requêtes RPC. 1) Enteprise Company Politics are Slow (TONS of red tape) - The customer's SharePoint folks were very excited to have me, but because of the size of the company and company politics, I needed to come on as a sub contractor through MCS. So talking to the MCS account rep, he setup a call and we discussed it. The whole account team was very excited. We can have you start on Monday. Monday comes, and I'm still there and I send mails with delayed responses. Oh, sorry, we need to get upper level management approval and your rate is concerning them. What? I thought we were past this... So tell me what they want. Oh, MCS is adding a cushion? Sure I expect that. So will each layer.

2) Statement of Works are a fact of life and completely ridiculous - We know what you're going to do, but we need a statement of work. The statement of work might be approved, but it will take a review sometime in the next few weeks. It might happen as soon as tomorrow or as late as next budget. Template for the SOW? Just write something up and we'll let you know if it works.

3) To be a sub, you need to choose sub contracting company - So I need to get in a company to get in another company? And we wonder why the rates are a problem. Independent consulting really doesn't exist at the enterprise level.

4) What sounds real is fake - the people who want to do things are often completely not enabled to make decisions. This is very, very much a common problem. I'm sure SharePoint ISVs see this all the time.

5) Life is completely random - You might get a call in the middle of the night from a client that has to have you on the ground tomorrow, and by the time you get yourself together. It's gone. Something happened, but you don't know what. You just know they stopped calling and they don't return your calls... if you even have their number. Urgent has been reprioritized.

Lessons Learned - If you want to do consulting, then you likely are better off picking a company to hang your hat on, even if your relationship with them is loose. Getting insurance can be hard if you have existing conditions that have medication. Some alumni organizations either from your previous company or from your school may have options for you. Small and medium companies are actually more agile and can make decisions much faster. They often are willing to pay the rate and can pay it because they don't have the multiple layers and red tape. They want the expert and boom they can have them.

Long story short. I never ended up at the big enterprise job that had to have me that made me drop other things off my plate. They wasted a TON of my time and I wouldn't even give them my time if they doubled my rates due to the way I was treated. I had an awesome summer doing a ton of fun things from short high impact consulting gigs, training, workshops, and conferences all over the globe. It was awesome.

Consulting at an independent level is ultimately sales. So if you don't like sales you may not like independent consulting. You have to sell your skills, then you have to sell your solution, then you have to deal with account management. No guarantees at all along the way. No matter how much time the customer has invested there is no guarantee it will go through. Those 2 months where you could make TONS of money could be 2 months of wasted time trying to get the job that gets reprioritized and you're out all that time. SAD.
